The first "tennis shoes" were made from... gloves and condoms!
In 1892 , the US Rubber Company brought together several small factories specializing in rubber products—including manufacturers of gloves, raincoats, and even condoms —and decided to apply the same technology to create something new: lightweight footwear with rubber soles.
From this fusion was born one of the first models recognized as modern "sneakers": Keds , which would only be named as such in 1916.
🔹 They were silent when they walked — hence the name “sneaker” (from to sneak , to move without making noise).
🔹 They first became popular in leisure activities and then in sports.
Since then, they have become the most versatile footwear in the world, combining style, comfort, and urban culture.
At Global Hype you'll find exclusive sneakers from top brands — Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Jordan and many more. Rare models, limited editions and unique collaborations all in one place.
